Replace Old, Faded Wallpaper In Your Bedroom With Bright-Colored Paint

If you have old, faded wallpaper on your bedroom's walls and would like to remove it and replace it with bright-colored paint, the project below will assist you. Once you have finished the steps, your bedroom will have a fresh, updated appearance and the newly-painted walls can be complemented with some artwork or decorative mirrors.

Materials

  • wallpaper scoring tool
  • paper removing agent
  • water
  • spray bottle
  • scouring pad
  • mild detergent
  • drop cloths
  • power sander
  • fine grit sandpaper
  • tack cloth
  • painter's tape
  • interior primer
  • interior paint
  • mixing stick
  • paint tray
  • paint roller
  • extension handle
  • narrow paintbrush

Remove The Wallpaper

Move a scoring tool firmly across each seam in the wallpaper. This will puncture the wallpaper, making it easier to remove after applying a removing agent. Prepare a wallpaper removing agent according to the directions that are printed on the product's packaging. Fill a spray bottle with the amount of the agent and water that you were instructed to use.

Shake the contents in the bottle and apply the mixture liberally on the wallpaper's surface. Wait several minutes for the paper to loosen before grasping corners of sections that were cut with the scoring tool and pulling them away from the walls.

Clean And Sand The Walls

Apply mild detergent that has been mixed with water to each wall. Use a scouring pad to wipe the cleaning solution into the surface of each wall. Use a damp sponge to remove the cleaning solution from the walls. Wait for the walls to dry. If any parts of each wall have a rough surface, lightly sand them with a power sander that has a piece of fine grit sandpaper secured to it. Wipe the walls off with a tack cloth in order to remove any dust.

Apply Primer And Paint

Cover trim on each wall with pieces of painter's tape. Stir a container of primer in order to eliminate air bubbles and provide the primer with an even consistency. Fill a paint tray with the primer. Use a paint roller to apply a coat of primer to each wall. Move the roller across each wall in even lines. Use a narrow paintbrush to cover any areas that were not covered sufficiently with the roller. Wait for the primer to dry.

Stir a container of interior paint and pour it into a clean paint tray. Apply paint to the walls with a clean paint roller and paintbrush. Wait for the paint to dry and add an additional coat if you would like to. Once the paint has dried, peel off the pieces of painter's tape and dispose of them. Add some decorations to the walls that will enhance the paint that you have applied.

About Me

Keeping Your Business Immaculate

There aren't many things that make me mad as a business owner, but a messy space is definitely one of them. I started noticing that I was having some serious issues with my employees keeping things clean after a member of our board commented on the problem a few months ago. I knew that I needed to make things right, so I hired a cleaning services company to help. It was incredible to watch how effectively they cleaned, and I knew that I would be a customer for life. Read more on this blog about how to keep your business cleaner than ever before.
